  • Android 8.0 will be able to update even if there is a shortage of memory

Many users noticed that to install a new version of the OS, the smartphone loads a large file into memory. The update sizes often exceed 1 GB, which negatively affects traffic, and some users do not even have enough storage to download the build. In such cases, iOS and Windows Mobile 10 begin to delete the cache and unnecessary service files, and for newer versions of Android, developers have provided a more convenient solution.

Starting with Android 7.0, the system has the function of "seamless" updates. On supported devices, the system is divided into two sections, and during the update installation, the fresh assembly is written to the backup partition in the background. Meanwhile, the firmware is still preloaded into user memory and requires free space.

The documentation for Android 8.0 found a new option, which allows for blocks to download an update from the server directly to the backup partition. The scheme completely eliminates the need for free memory, and updates will occupy only 100 KB on the drive instead of 1 GB.Google will also include a similar update algorithm for Google Play services. Nevertheless, the dual system partition is not available on all smartphones - probably, "streaming" updates of Play-services will be available only for Android 8.0. Manufacturers of smartphones and tablets can also ignore the idea of Google, so there is a chance that the feature will be the exclusive line of Pixel.
